Petal (often referred to in Danish contexts as 'Petal kort') is a financial technology brand founded in 2016 in New York, USA. The product was created by Jason Gross, Andrew Endicott, David Ehrich, and Jack Arenas with the mission of making credit accessible to individuals with little to no credit history. Unlike traditional credit cards that rely solely on credit scores, Petal pioneered 'cash flow underwriting,' analyzing a user's digital financial records and banking history to determine creditworthiness.

While Petal operates as the technology and branding platform, the physical credit cards are typically issued by WebBank, a Utah-chartered industrial bank. The brand identifies as a 'white hat' lender, famously offering cards with no late fees or annual fees for its primary tiers.

In April 2024, Petal was acquired by Empower Finance (Empower), a San Francisco-based fintech company. This acquisition integrated Petal into Empower’s broader ecosystem of financial tools, including credit monitoring and cash advances, aimed at underserved consumers. As of 2026, the brand continues to operate under the Empower umbrella, maintaining its focus on inclusive credit access in the U.S. market.
