Norco is one of Australia's most historic and enduring dairy brands, operating as a 100% farmer-owned cooperative since its inception in 1895. Founded in Byron Bay, New South Wales, originally as the North Coast Fresh Food & Cold Storage Co-operative Ltd, the brand was established by local farmers who sought to control their own production and distribution, initially focusing on butter and even bacon production.

Today, Norco remains a rare example of a large-scale agricultural business that has resisted multinational acquisition. It is owned by hundreds of active dairy farmer members across northern New South Wales and south-east Queensland. The cooperative processes over 200 million litres of milk annually through its major facilities in Raleigh, Lismore, and Labrador. By maintaining its cooperative structure, Norco ensures that profits are returned directly to its member farmers and their local communities, supporting the regional dairy industry's long-term sustainability.
