Quiksilver was founded in 1969 in Torquay, Victoria, Australia, by Alan Green and John Law, who sought to create high-performance boardshorts specifically for surfers. The brand’s iconic 'Mountain and Wave' logo, inspired by Hokusai’s woodcut The Great Wave off Kanagawa, has since become a global symbol for board sports and youth lifestyle culture. Today, Quiksilver’s headquarters are in Huntington Beach, California, and its products are sold in over 115 countries.

In 2023, Authentic Brands Group (ABG) acquired Boardriders, Inc., the parent company of Quiksilver, for approximately $1.25 billion. In 2025, the brand underwent further shifts in its retail strategy after its North American licensee, Liberated Brands, filed for bankruptcy and liquidated physical stores. As of 2026, the brand remains active under ABG's global portfolio, focusing on digital sales and local distribution through new partners like O5 Apparel (North American men's license) and Velocity Global Brands (women's license).

Manufacturing for Quiksilver is distributed globally to maintain cost efficiency and technical quality. Production primarily takes place in various Asian countries, including China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand, and India, with additional sourcing from Morocco and Mauritius.
