Perrier sparkling water

Perrier is a world-renowned brand of natural sparkling mineral water, best recognized by its signature green bottle and pear-shaped silhouette. The water is sourced from a unique spring in Vergèze, located in the Gard department of southern France. Known for its high carbonation and distinct mineral profile, it has long been marketed as the "Champagne of mineral water."

Originally a spa destination approved by Napoleon III, the spring was acquired in 1898 by Dr. Louis Perrier, who developed the bottling process. It was later funded and expanded by British businessman St. John Harmsworth, who gave the brand its international name. Since 1992, the brand has been under the ownership of Nestlé, becoming a cornerstone of their water portfolio.

Starting in early 2025 and progressing through 2026, Nestlé entered a strategic transition, placing its European premium water business—including Perrier, S.Pellegrino, and Acqua Panna—up for sale to focus on higher-margin sectors like coffee and pet care. Major private equity firms are currently involved in the bidding process to determine the brand's future independent leadership.
