Andrex is one of the most iconic British household brands, originally launched in 1942 by St Andrew Mills Ltd in Walthamstow, London. The name itself is a portmanteau derived from St Andrew Road, where the original mill was located. Initially developed as a luxury two-ply alternative to the rougher 'shiny' papers common at the time, Andrex became a market leader in the UK, famously synonymous with the 'Andrex Puppy' mascot introduced in 1972.

Over the decades, the brand's ownership has transitioned through several major paper companies. In 1955, St Andrew Mills was acquired by the Bowater Company, which later formed the Bowater-Scott joint venture. After Scott Paper Company took full control in 1986, the brand was eventually acquired by the American multinational Kimberly-Clark in 1995 as part of its merger with Scott.

Today, despite its American ownership, Andrex remains a staple of British manufacturing. All dry toilet tissue for the UK market is produced at Kimberly-Clark's dedicated facilities in Northfleet (Kent) and Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria). The brand continues to focus on sustainability, utilizing FSC-certified fibers and increasingly renewable energy sources at its UK production sites.
