The Morrisons brand originated in 1899 in Bradford, England, starting as a local market stall. It remained a family-controlled public company for decades until it was acquired in October 2021 by the American private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R). Despite this change in ultimate ownership, the brand remains centrally headquartered in Bradford and continues to operate primarily as a pillar of the UK grocery market, maintaining its focus on fresh British produce.
