Loeb Classical Library Caesar: The Gallic War

Modern editions of the Loeb Classical Library are primarily manufactured in the United States, where Harvard University Press oversees typesetting, printing, and binding. Historically, from its inception in 1912 until 1989, the series was printed and distributed by William Heinemann Ltd. in London, making earlier copies British-made.

The Loeb Classical Library was founded in 1911 by James Loeb, a German-American banker and philanthropist, with the mission of making Greek and Latin literature accessible to a wider audience through bilingual editions. Upon his death in 1933, the library was bequeathed to Harvard University, and Harvard University Press eventually took full control of the series' publishing and international distribution. Today, it remains an iconic academic institution, recognizable by its distinct red covers for Latin texts and green covers for Greek texts.
