Cameco uranium and nuclear fuel

Cameco Corporation is a global leader in the nuclear energy industry, primarily known as one of the world's largest publicly traded uranium producers. The company was established in 1988 through the merger and subsequent privatization of two Canadian government-owned (Crown) corporations: Saskatchewan Mining Development Corporation (SMDC) and Eldorado Nuclear Limited. Headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Cameco provides a significant portion of the uranium concentrates (yellowcake) and fuel services needed to power commercial nuclear reactors worldwide.

While its origins are firmly rooted in Canada, Cameco's manufacturing and extraction operations are geographically diverse. It operates major high-grade uranium mines in northern Saskatchewan, such as McArthur River and Cigar Lake, and also maintains significant operations in the United States (Nebraska and Wyoming) and through joint ventures in Kazakhstan (Inkai). Beyond mining, the company is vertically integrated through its Fuel Services division in Ontario, which handles refining, conversion, and fuel fabrication. Furthermore, Cameco expanded its global reach in 2023 by partnering with Brookfield Renewable to acquire Westinghouse Electric Company, a major provider of nuclear reactor technology and services. Today, Cameco is a publicly traded entity listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges, owned by a broad range of institutional and retail investors.
