Jacobs Krönung is one of Europe's most storied coffee brands, rooted in a legacy that dates back to 1895 when Johann Jacobs opened a specialty coffee shop in Bremen, Germany. The Krönung line (meaning 'coronation') was introduced in 1966 and quickly became the brand's flagship premium offering, famously associated with its 'Verwöhnaroma' (pampering aroma). For decades, the brand was synonymous with German coffee culture and operated under the Jacobs Kaffee GmbH company.

In modern years, the brand's ownership has undergone significant consolidation. Today, Jacobs is a core brand of JDE Peet's, a Dutch-headquartered coffee giant formed through successive mergers involving Mondelez International and Douwe Egberts (as Jacobs Douwe Egberts or JDE) and later Peet's Coffee. As of 2026, the brand has transitioned into American corporate oversight following the definitive acquisition of JDE Peet's by Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP) for approximately $18 billion. While the coffee's heritage is German and much of its roasting still takes place in Germany, the brand is managed globally from the Netherlands and overseen by its ultimate owner in the United States.
