Javaanse Jongens tobacco

Javaanse Jongens is a well-known brand of fine-cut rolling tobacco that originated in the Netherlands. The brand was created by the Theodorus Niemeijer company, which was established in Groningen in 1819. The name "Javaanse Jongens" (meaning "Javanese Boys") and its distinctive logo featuring two Indonesian men are a historical homage to the former Dutch colony of Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia), which was a major source of tobacco and other colonial goods for Europe. Despite the name and imagery, the tobacco blends themselves typically consist of Virginia, Burley, and Orient varieties rather than sourcing exclusively from Java.

Today, the brand is part of the global portfolio of British American Tobacco (BAT). BAT acquired the original manufacturer, Koninklijke Theodorus Niemeijer BV, in 1999. Manufacturing continues to be centered in the Netherlands, primarily at the Niemeijer facility in Groningen, which serves as a major production hub for BAT's rolling tobacco brands. The product is widely available across Europe, particularly in Germany and the Benelux countries, and is marketed as a natural tobacco product often produced without additional additives.
