The Panda brand was originally established in 1920 by SOK (Suomen Osuuskauppojen Keskuskunta) in Vaajakoski, Jyväskylä, Finland. While the factory initially focused on chocolates and hard candies, liquorice production began in the late 1920s and quickly became the brand's most famous output. Today, the product remains produced at its historical manufacturing site in Vaajakoski, staying true to its Finnish roots even as ownership has shifted over time.

In 2005, the brand was acquired by the Norwegian industrial conglomerate Orkla. Despite being part of a large multinational group, Panda maintains its distinct identity as a Finnish national treasure and is exported to over 25 countries worldwide, where it is often recognized for its clean-label approach and high-quality natural ingredients.
