Thule is a premier Swedish brand synonymous with the outdoor active lifestyle. Founded in 1942 by Erik Thulin in Hillerstorp, Sweden, the company originally produced fishing gear before pivoting to automobile accessories like roof racks in the 1960s. Today, Thule is a global leader in transport solutions, including its highly regarded bicycle trailers, which became part of the portfolio through the 2011 acquisition of the specialist brand Chariot Carriers.

While the brand's heart remains in Sweden, where its global headquarters and a major R&D center are located, manufacturing is distributed globally to serve different markets efficiently. For example, roof racks are primarily manufactured in Sweden, while roof boxes and other accessories are produced in facilities across Poland, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, and the United States (notably in Connecticut and Illinois). Since 2014, Thule Group AB has been a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq Stockholm. This transition from private equity ownership (previously held by firms like Nordic Capital and Candover) to a public entity has solidified its position as an independent, heritage-rich Swedish multinational with a diverse international shareholder base.
