Derbi motorcycle

Derbi is a historic Spanish motorcycle brand whose name is an abbreviation of the Catalan phrase Derivats de BIcicletes (derivatives of bicycles). Founded in 1922 by Simeó Rabasa i Singla in Mollet, near Barcelona, the company evolved from a bicycle repair shop into a world-renowned manufacturer of small-displacement motorcycles and scooters. Derbi gained legendary status in the racing world, earning numerous world championships in the 50cc, 80cc, and 125cc classes, often referred to as the 'Red Bullets' due to their distinctive color.

Historically, Derbi products were manufactured at the Martorelles plant in Spain. However, following the brand's acquisition by the Italian Piaggio Group in 2001, production operations were eventually restructured. In 2013, the Martorelles factory was closed, and manufacturing for Derbi vehicles was relocated to Piaggio's facilities in Italy. Today, Derbi operates as a specialist brand within Piaggio's extensive portfolio, focusing on the youth market with a range of scooters and supermotard-style bikes.
