Lacoste is a historic French fashion brand founded in 1933 by tennis champion René Lacoste and entrepreneur André Gillier. The brand is globally recognized by its iconic green crocodile logo, which originated from René Lacoste's nickname, 'The Crocodile,' earned for his tenacity on the tennis court. The brand revolutionized sports attire with the introduction of the 'petit piqué' cotton polo shirt, which was the first garment to feature a brand logo overtly on the chest.

While the brand maintains deep roots in France—specifically in Troyes, where it was founded—its manufacturing is now global to meet international demand. Production takes place in various countries including France (for prestige lines), Peru (known for Pima cotton), Morocco, Tunisia, China, Vietnam, and El Salvador.

In 2012, Lacoste was fully acquired by the Swiss family-owned holding company Maus Frères SA. Today, it operates under the 'MF Brands Group' portfolio, which also includes other well-known labels like Gant and Aigle. The brand continues to be headquartered in Paris, France, while its ultimate financial and strategic control resides in Geneva, Switzerland.
