Kahoot! learning platform

Kahoot! is a global learning and engagement platform originally developed as a research project at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The concept began in 2006 as "Lecture Quiz" before being officially founded as a company in 2012 by Morten Versvik, Johan Brand, Jamie Brooker, Alf Inge Wang, and Åsmund Furuseth. The platform allows users to create and host interactive, multiple-choice quiz games that can be played via web browsers or mobile applications.

While the software is accessible globally, its development and primary corporate operations are headquartered in Oslo, Norway. In early 2024, the company underwent a major ownership shift; it was delisted from the Oslo Stock Exchange after being acquired for approximately $1.7 billion by a consortium led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, which also included General Atlantic and KIRKBI Invest (the investment firm behind the LEGO brand). Today, Kahoot! continues to operate as a private entity, expanding into corporate training and administrative tools through various acquisitions like Clever, Actimo, and DragonBox.
