The brand originated in Finland under the name Puhdistamo, which was established in 2009 by a group of wellness enthusiasts. While known as Puhdistamo in its home market, the brand was launched in Sweden and other international markets under the name Pureness around 2020.

In early 2026, the brand's parent company, Puhdistamo - Real Foods Oy, was acquired by PK Consumer Health, a Dutch-based consumer healthcare platform. This acquisition was supported by the private equity firm Avista Healthcare Partners and the Belgian family office Damier Group. Despite the change in ultimate ownership, the brand maintains its production roots in Finland, with manufacturing facilities located in the Tampere region.
