The product was developed by the British company Swizzels Matlow, which has specialized in fizzy and jelly-based sweets for nearly a century.

Originally founded in London in the 1920s, the company relocated to a former textile mill in New Mills, Derbyshire, during the 1940s to escape the Blitz. This location remains the primary manufacturing hub for the brand today. Swizzels Matlow is notable for remaining an independent, family-owned business, currently managed by the third generation of the founding Dee and Matlow families. The brand has expanded its global presence, exporting to over 20 countries, while maintaining its status as a staple of British retro confectionery.
