Ahimsa is a pioneering brand in Spain's plant-based food sector, founded in 1978 by Juan López and Teresa Madurga in Zaragoza. The brand name, derived from the Sanskrit word for 'non-violence,' reflects the company's commitment to animal welfare and sustainable nutrition.

Originally starting as a small family operation producing handcrafted meat alternatives, the parent company, Biosurya S.L., grew into a modern facility in Cuarte de Huerva (Zaragoza), where the products are still manufactured today. These specialized vegan sausages, such as the Bratwurst style, are made using organic ingredients like soy and wheat protein.

In 2017, Biosurya and its flagship brand Ahimsa were acquired by the French group Compagnie Léa Nature. This partnership integrated the Spanish pioneer into a larger European ecosystem focused on natural and organic products, while maintaining the brand's original production heritage in the Aragon region of Spain.
