Hiplok is a prominent British brand specializing in innovative security solutions for cyclists and motorcyclists. The brand was founded in 2011 by industrial designers and cycling enthusiasts Ben Smith and John Abrahams in Leamington Spa, United Kingdom. The company originally operated under the name Plus 8 Industries Limited. Hiplok gained international acclaim for creating the world's first wearable bike lock, designed to provide high security without sacrificing ease of transport.
While all product design, engineering, and testing are conducted at the brand's headquarters in the UK to ensure rigorous quality standards, the manufacturing of the physical locks is primarily carried out in China. This model allows the brand to combine British design innovation with large-scale production capabilities.
In February 2021, the brand entered a significant new chapter when the German-based uvex sports group acquired a majority shareholding in Plus 8 Industries Limited. As of 2026, Hiplok continues to operate as an innovative subsidiary within the uvex group, leveraging the parent company's global distribution networks and manufacturing expertise while maintaining its dedicated design identity in the UK.
