NAPA Auto Parts, originally established as the National Automotive Parts Association in 1925, is a globally recognized brand in the automotive aftermarket industry. Founded in Detroit, Michigan, as a cooperative of independent auto parts sellers, it was designed to streamline the distribution of replacement parts for the rapidly growing number of vehicles on the road. Today, it operates as a division of Genuine Parts Company (GPC), which has systematically acquired the original member organisations to become the sole owner of the brand.
In the United Kingdom, NAPA's presence is managed through the Alliance Automotive Group (AAG), a major subsidiary of GPC acquired in 2017. The brand has seen significant expansion in the UK market, including the launch of NAPA Racing UK and an extensive network of motor factors and distribution centres. While NAPA sources its components from various global manufacturers to maintain competitive pricing and high standards, several product lines are manufactured or assembled within the UK, specifically in automotive manufacturing hubs like the Midlands and Northwest of England.
As of February 2026, Genuine Parts Company has announced plans to restructure its operations by splitting its automotive and industrial divisions into two separate publicly traded entities. This strategic move aims to enhance growth by allowing the automotive segment, anchored by NAPA, to operate independently from the industrial distribution business (Motion). This transition, expected to complete in early 2027, will solidify NAPA's position as a standalone leader in the global automotive retail and service market.
