Harry's was founded in 2012 by Jeff Raider and Andy Katz-Mayfield in New York City. The brand was established as a direct-to-consumer disruptor in the shaving industry, aiming to provide high-quality grooming products at a fair price compared to established incumbents.
A key milestone for the company occurred in January 2014 when it acquired Feintechnik GmbH Eisfeld, a century-old razor blade factory in Eisfeld, Germany. This acquisition allowed Harry's to vertically integrate its production, ensuring control over the quality and cost of its core razor blades. While the blades are engineered and manufactured in Germany using Swedish steel, the razor handles are produced in China. The brand has since expanded its lineup to include skincare, body care, and hair care products, many of which are formulated and produced in labs within the United States and the United Kingdom.
In 2019, Edgewell Personal Care attempted to acquire Harry’s for $1.37 billion, but the deal was blocked by the Federal Trade Commission in 2020 on antitrust grounds. Consequently, Harry's remains an independent company under its parent entity, now known as Mammoth Brands. The company continues to operate from its headquarters in New York City, maintaining its status as a significant player in the global personal care market.
