Krups is a storied German brand that carries a legacy of precision engineering dating back to 1846. Founded by Robert Krups in Solingen, Germany, the company initially specialized in high-precision scales and industrial balances. It wasn't until the mid-20th century that Krups pivoted toward household appliances, achieving massive success with the legendary '3Mix' hand mixer in 1959 and its first electric coffee maker in 1961.

Modern manufacturing for Krups products is decentralized. While many of its high-end coffee and espresso machines are still engineered in Germany or produced in European facilities like those in Mayenne, France, other product ranges and entry-level items are manufactured in China and other global locations.

Following a period of financial restructuring in the late 90s, Krups was acquired in 2001 by Groupe SEB, a French multinational conglomerate and the world leader in small domestic equipment. Under Groupe SEB's ownership, Krups has been positioned as a premium brand specializing in coffee preparation and food processing, notably maintaining long-term partnerships with Nestlé for the production of Nespresso and Dolce Gusto systems.
