Wolt is a prominent Finnish technology company known for its local commerce and delivery platform. Founded in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, by a team of six entrepreneurs including Miki Kuusi, the service initially launched as a pick-up only app for restaurants. It quickly evolved into a comprehensive delivery network for food, groceries, and retail goods, expanding across Europe and Asia.
In May 2022, Wolt was officially acquired by the American delivery giant DoorDash in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately €7 billion. Following the acquisition, Wolt has continued to operate as a distinct sub-brand of DoorDash specifically within its European and Asian markets. In late 2025 and 2026, the company underwent significant strategic shifts, including the integration of Deliveroo's operations in certain regions under the DoorDash umbrella and the strategic withdrawal from markets like Japan and Uzbekistan to focus on its core high-growth regions in Western and Central Europe.
While headquartered in Finland, Wolt relies on a decentralized network of couriers and merchant partners across more than 25 countries. The company's operations are powered by proprietary logistics software developed primarily at its technology hubs in Helsinki and Berlin, facilitating millions of deliveries annually.
