Kienzle is Germany's oldest watchmaking brand, with a history originating in 1822 when Johannes Schlenker established a workshop in Schwenningen, in the Black Forest region. Initially specializing in wooden wall clocks and night watchman control watches, the company underwent a major transformation after Jakob Kienzle joined through marriage in 1883. Under his leadership, the company adopted efficient industrial manufacturing methods inspired by the American system, allowing for the mass production of high-quality, affordable timepieces.

Throughout the 20th century, Kienzle became a market leader in Germany, known for technical innovations such as the first solar watches and radio-controlled clocks. During the mid-20th century, the brand expanded significantly into Italy, which eventually became a primary market for its wristwatch collections. While the company faced various corporate restructurings and ownership changes—including acquisition by Highway Holdings in Hong Kong and subsequent returns to German ownership—it remains a symbol of German engineering heritage. Today, the brand's presence is split, with Kienzle Italia catering to the fashion-forward wristwatch market and the German entity focusing on lifestyle products and diverse timekeeping devices.
