Douwe Egberts is a historic Dutch coffee brand with a heritage dating back to 1753 when Egbert Douwes opened a small grocery shop named 'De Witte Os' (The White Ox) in Joure, Netherlands. The brand formally took its name from his son, Douwe Egberts, who grew the business into a regional leader. Throughout the 20th century, Douwe Egberts evolved from a domestic Dutch favorite into a global coffee powerhouse, recognized by its signature glass jars and the iconic red 'D.E.' seal.

While the brand holds deep roots in the Netherlands, its manufacturing footprint is international. Today, Douwe Egberts products are produced in multiple locations to serve global markets, including major facilities in the Netherlands and the JDE Peet's factory in Banbury, United Kingdom. Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major corporations, including the Sara Lee Corporation and later D.E Master Blenders 1753.

Following a series of major industry consolidations, Douwe Egberts became part of JDE Peet's. In a significant move in 2025-2026, the brand's parent company was acquired by the American beverage giant Keurig Dr Pepper. This acquisition led to a strategic restructuring that centered the brand under a global coffee-focused entity headquartered in the United States and the Netherlands, reinforcing its position as a staple in both European and international coffee cultures.
