The Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) is a smart home command center with a 7-inch touchscreen, integrated speaker, and Google Assistant functionality. Originally launched as ‘Google Home Hub’, the brand was transitioned to the 'Google Nest' banner in 2019 to unify Google’s smart home ecosystem under the identity of the specialized home automation firm it acquired in 2014.
The Nest brand was originally founded in 2010 by former Apple engineers Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers as Nest Labs. They invented the iconic learning thermostat before being acquired by Google in 2014 for $3.2 billion. Today, the brand is fully integrated into Google's hardware division and serves as the primary name for the company’s smart speakers, displays, cameras, and thermostats.
Manufacturing of the Nest Hub is primarily handled by contract manufacturers in China, though Google has made efforts to diversify its supply chain. The device’s 2nd generation model is notable for its sustainable design, with an enclosure composed of 54% post-consumer recycled plastic and fabric made from recycled bottles. Ownership rests with Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google LLC, headquartered in Mountain View, California.
