Salomon shoes

Salomon is a premier outdoor sports brand with a heritage deeply rooted in the French Alps. Founded in 1947 by François Salomon and his son Georges in Annecy, France, the company originally started as a small workshop specializing in ski edges and bindings. Over the decades, it revolutionized winter sports equipment before successfully expanding into hiking footwear in 1992 and later into the trail running and lifestyle sneaker markets.

While Salomon's design, research, and high-end prototyping remain centered at its headquarters in Annecy, the majority of its global footwear production is conducted in Asia, specifically in Vietnam and China. In a move toward localizing production, the brand opened the 'Advanced Shoe Factory 4.0' in France around 2021, a robotic facility that produces technical footwear for the European market.

Today, Salomon is a key subsidiary of Amer Sports, a Finnish-headquartered sporting goods conglomerate. Amer Sports itself was acquired in 2019 by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant ANTA Sports, which currently holds the ultimate ownership of the brand. This ownership structure has fueled Salomon's recent surge as a global fashion and 'gorpcore' icon.
