Barnängen is a classic Swedish beauty and personal care brand with a heritage dating back to 1868. It was founded in Stockholm by wholesaler Johan Wilhelm Holmström, initially gaining fame for its mild bar soap launched in 1873. The brand's philosophy is rooted in the Swedish concept of Lagom—finding the perfect balance—using Nordic-inspired natural ingredients and its signature Cold Cream formula.

Historically, the products were manufactured in Sweden (Södermalm and later Ekerö). However, following its acquisition by the German multinational Henkel, production has largely shifted to Henkel's European manufacturing facilities. Today, many Barnängen products, including hair care, are primarily manufactured in Slovenia to serve the Nordic and European markets. Despite this shift in manufacturing and ownership, Barnängen remains a Royal Purveyor in Sweden and maintains a strong Scandinavian identity through its formulas and branding.
