Gaylord Hotels is a premium brand of large-scale resort hotels and convention centers primarily located in the United States. The brand is celebrated for its massive glass-topped atriums that house indoor gardens, waterways, and diverse dining and shopping options, creating a 'resort-within-a-resort' experience. Originally developed by the Gaylord Entertainment Company, which was a successor to the Oklahoma Publishing Company (OPUBCO), the brand was built around the success of the iconic Opryland USA complex in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 2012, a significant restructuring occurred where the brand rights and management operations were sold to Marriott International for $210 million. Following this deal, the original company rebranded itself as Ryman Hospitality Properties and transitioned into a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Under this current structure, Ryman Hospitality Properties retains ownership of the physical hotel buildings and real estate, while Marriott International owns the brand name and manages the day-to-day operations. This partnership allows Gaylord Hotels to leverage Marriott’s global distribution, loyalty programs, and hospitality expertise while maintaining its identity as a premier destination for major conventions and family leisure travel.
