Kate's Real Food was founded in 2010 by Kate Schade in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The brand's origin story began in the mid-1990s when Kate, an avid skier, started making organic energy bars at home to fuel her outdoor adventures. Known as "Tram Bars," they quickly gained a local following among the skiing community.

In 2020, the company formed a strategic partnership with The Organic Snack Company (TOSC) to scale production. Today, all products are manufactured in a dedicated facility in Bedford, Pennsylvania. In 2022, the brand officially moved its corporate headquarters back to its roots in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to reinforce its connection to the outdoor and organic farming communities. The company remains privately held, with founder Kate Schade and CEO Bruce Thaler as the principal owners.
