Luckin Coffee (瑞幸咖啡) is a prominent Chinese coffeehouse chain and technology-driven retail brand. Founded in Beijing in 2017 by Jenny Qian Zhiya and Charles Zhengyao Lu, the company rapidly expanded to become China's largest coffee chain by store count, famously surpassing Starbucks. The brand is known for its 'new retail' model, which integrates mobile app ordering and quick delivery with a vast network of pickup and 'relax' stores.
While Luckin Coffee sources its high-quality coffee beans from premium global regions including Brazil, Ethiopia, Colombia, and China’s Yunnan province, the manufacturing and roasting processes are heavily vertically integrated within China. The company operates several major 'super factories' and roasting plants in locations such as Pingnan (Fujian), Kunshan (Jiangsu), and Qingdao (Shandong). These facilities utilize advanced automation and intelligent manufacturing technology to support its massive scale, which reached over 30,000 stores by early 2026.
Following a significant financial restructuring after 2020, the company came under the control of the private equity firm Centurium Capital. Under this new ownership, Luckin has expanded internationally into markets like Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States. In 2026, the company further strengthened its market position by acquiring the global store business of Blue Bottle Coffee from Nestlé, establishing a dual-brand strategy covering both mass-market and premium specialty coffee segments.
