Rotkäppchen is Germany's most prominent sparkling wine brand, boasting a history that dates back to 1856 in Freyburg (Unstrut). Originally founded as the wine shop Kloss & Foerster, the brand was renamed Rotkäppchen (Little Red Riding Hood) in 1894 due to a legal dispute over the name 'Monopol' and as a nod to its iconic red foil cap.

During the era of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), the company operated as a state-owned enterprise (VEB), becoming the leading sparkling wine in East Germany. Following German reunification, it underwent a successful management buy-out in 1993, eventually becoming a national market leader. Today, Rotkäppchen is the flagship brand of the Rotkäppchen-Mumm group. While the company sources high-quality grapes and base wines from various European regions (Italy, France, Spain) to ensure flavor consistency, the production, blending, and bottling processes remain centered at its historic headquarters and specialized facilities in Germany.
