Tunnock's Confectionery Range

Tunnock's, officially Thomas Tunnock Limited, is an iconic Scottish confectionery brand founded in December 1890 by Thomas Tunnock in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire. From its humble beginnings as a small bakery purchased for just £80, the company evolved into a manufacturing powerhouse, particularly during the post-WWII era when sugar and fat rationing led to the creation of products with longer shelf lives, such as the famous Caramel Wafer (1952) and the Teacake (1956).

To this day, the brand maintains a strictly family-owned and private structure, resisting acquisition offers and supermarket pressure to produce private-label goods. Production is centralized at their historic and frequently expanded facility in Uddingston, which produces millions of units weekly to satisfy both domestic demand and a significant export market, particularly in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. The brand is deeply embedded in Scottish culture, famously featured in the opening ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

As of 2026, the company continues to be led by the Tunnock family, with Sir Boyd Tunnock (grandson of the founder) having been a long-standing head and the fifth generation of the family currently active in the business operations.
