Nando’s is a global South African restaurant chain and retail brand famous for its signature PERi-PERi (African Bird's Eye Chili) sauces. The brand was founded in 1987 in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, by Fernando Duarte and Robbie Brozin. Inspired by Portuguese-Mozambican culinary traditions, the founders rebranded an existing eatery called 'Chickenland' to 'Nando’s' (named after Fernando and his son).

While the brand's cultural heart and headquarters remain in South Africa, its manufacturing footprint is decentralized to support global distribution. The bottled sauces sold in supermarkets are produced in several locations: primary manufacturing for European and international distribution occurs in the Netherlands, while other facilities operate in South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Ownership of the Nando’s empire has been under the Enthoven family since the early 1990s. The family, led by late businessman Dick Enthoven, transformed the local chicken shop into a global powerhouse through their investment vehicles, Capricorn Ventures and Yellowwoods. Today, Nando's continues to be privately held by the Enthoven family, maintaining its status as one of South Africa's most successful international exports.
