The brand was established in 2018 as a partnership between the Kohl Family Farm, which has decades of experience growing dates in California's Coachella Valley, and Venice Brands, a Los Angeles-based consumer brand incubator.

The product is manufactured primarily using "ugly" medjool dates—fruit that is 100% sustainably sourced but may have cosmetic imperfections that make it unsuitable for whole-fruit packaging. By upcycling these dates into syrup, the company adheres to zero-waste and sustainable farming practices. All manufacturing and sourcing occur within Southern California, leveraging the natural climate of the Coachella Valley for high-quality date production.
