Ahlgrens bilar is a legendary Swedish confectionery brand, originally introduced in 1953 by the Ahlgrens technical factory in Gävle. The product's distinctive car shape was inspired by the Bugatti sports car and was the result of a failed attempt to produce marshmallows, which instead created a uniquely chewy foam candy that became a national icon in Sweden. The brand is famously marketed as 'Sweden's most bought car' due to the high volume of individual candy units sold.
Today, the brand is owned and manufactured by Cloetta, a leading Northern European confectionery company. Production primarily takes place at Cloetta's facility in Ljungsbro, Sweden. Over the years, the product range has expanded from the original pink, green, and white cars to include various flavors and textures, such as the 'Syrlig Frukt' (Sour Fruit) variety pictured here, which features fruit flavors like peach, pineapple, and raspberry with a sour sugar coating.
Cloetta has maintained the classic recipe and branding that have made Ahlgrens bilar a staple of Swedish culture for over seven decades, ensuring its status as a top-selling treat across the Nordic region and among Swedish expatriates worldwide.
