Ritter Sport is a globally recognized German chocolate brand, famous for its unique square-shaped bars. The brand was founded in 1912 by Alfred and Clara Ritter in Stuttgart, Germany. The idea for the square bar was conceived in 1932 by Clara Ritter, who wanted a chocolate bar that could fit into a sports jacket pocket without breaking, yet maintained the weight of a standard rectangular bar.

Today, the brand remains a family-owned enterprise, managed by the third generation of the Ritter family under the company name Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG. While the primary manufacturing facility and headquarters are located in Waldenbuch, Germany, the company expanded its production capabilities in 2019 by acquiring a facility in Breitenbrunn, Austria.

Ritter Sport is also notable for its commitment to sustainability; it was the first major chocolate bar manufacturer to source 100% certified sustainable cocoa and even operates its own cocoa farm, 'El Cacao', in Nicaragua to ensure high ethical standards and quality in its supply chain.
