Buffalo Systems is a legendary British outdoor brand that has maintained a steadfast commitment to domestic production for over four decades. Founded in 1979 by Hamish Hamilton, the brand is world-renowned for pioneering the 'Double P' (Pile and Pertex) system. This revolutionary concept was inspired by Inuit clothing techniques, using a combination of a windproof Pertex outer shell and a thick fiber pile inner to create garments that are designed to be worn directly against the skin, effectively replacing traditional multi-layered systems.

Unlike many of its competitors who moved production overseas, Buffalo Systems continues to manufacture its entire range of technical shirts, jackets, and sleeping bags in its factory in Sheffield, England. The company prides itself on small-batch production and high-quality craftsmanship, serving specialized users such as Mountain Rescue teams, the British military, and extreme high-altitude explorers.

In early 2025, following the passing of founder Hamish Hamilton, the company was acquired by adventurer and broadcaster Ben Fogle and Savile Row tailor James Sleater. The new owners have publicly pledged to uphold the brand's heritage by keeping manufacturing rooted in Sheffield while modernizing the brand's digital presence and expanding its product range.
