Brauwerk Freistil Oberstadt Whisky Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

Brauwerk Freistil is a craft brewery based in Tübingen, Germany, founded in 2017 by Richard Marcic and Thomas Feger. The 'Oberstadt Whisky Barrel Aged' is a premium variant of their Imperial Stout, aged for approximately 10 months in a blend of four different whisky barrels to infuse the beer with complex notes of caramel, vanilla, and smoke.

Starting in 2024, the brand underwent a significant rebranding to 'Neckawa,' a name derived from the Maori word for river, 'Awa,' reflecting co-founder Richard Marcic's New Zealand roots and the brand's location on the Neckar river. Despite the name change in their gastro-locations (like the former Casino am Neckar), the 'Brauwerk Freistil' name continues to represent their distinct brewing line. The brewery operates as an independent, locally owned entity under Brauwerk Freistil GmbH & Co. KG.
