Campingaz is a historic brand that revolutionized outdoor cooking and leisure. Founded in France in 1949 by three engineers—Gabriel Corlet, René Sillon, and André Colomb—the company was inspired by a family camping trip and the need for a portable, refillable fuel source. Their innovation led to the iconic blue 'Bleuet' stove and the characteristic blue gas cylinders that remain a symbol of the brand today.

Over the decades, Campingaz expanded its portfolio from simple gas canisters to include complex grills, lanterns, and cooling solutions. While it maintains deep roots in France, where its major factory in Saint-Genis-Laval, Lyon exhibits high production capacity for gas cartridges, the brand's ownership has transitioned through major corporate entities. In 1996, it was acquired by the American Coleman Company, and it is currently a part of the Newell Brands portfolio, a global American conglomerate.

Today, manufacturing is distributed: most gas cartridges and cylinders continue to be produced in France to maintain strict safety standards, while barbecue production was largely moved to Italy (CGIT facility) in the late 1990s. Other hardware and newer product lines are often sourced through their Asian Technical Centre (ATC) in China to ensure quality across global distribution.
