Fragonard Scene Porcelain Tea Cup

This porcelain tea cup features a romantic 'Courting Couple' scene, a classic design motif inspired by the Rococo-style artworks of the 18th-century French painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard. These scenes became immensely popular on European fine china during the mid-20th century, particularly between the 1940s and 1970s.

While the motif is French in inspiration, the majority of high-quality sets of this style were manufactured by renowned porcelain factories in the Bavaria region of Germany, such as Heinrich & Co, Bareuther, or Schirnding. Some versions were also produced in Limoges, France, or as late-century replicas in other regions.
