Milch-Schnitte (also known as Kinder Milch-Schnitte in some regions) is a popular chilled confectionery product consisting of a light milk cream filling sandwiched between two thin layers of cocoa sponge cake. Developed by the Italian confectionery giant Ferrero, it was first introduced to the German market in 1978. While the brand carries the legacy of Italian innovation, its identity is deeply rooted in German consumer culture, where it has been marketed as a fresh snack alternative for decades.
The product is primarily manufactured in Germany at Ferrero's large facility in Stadtallendorf, which supplies much of the European market. Despite its widespread availability across Europe, the brand remains under the stewardship of the Ferrero Group, a family-owned multinational company based in Italy. Over the years, the brand has evolved, sometimes dropping the 'Kinder' prefix in German-speaking markets to appeal to a broader demographic, including adults seeking a light snack.
