McVitie's Digestives Integral

McVitie's is one of the most iconic British biscuit brands, with a history dating back to 1839 when Robert McVitie and his father William opened their first shop in Edinburgh, Scotland. The brand is famously credited with inventing the 'Digestive' biscuit in 1892, a recipe attributed to Sir Alexander Grant that remains a closely guarded secret and a staple of British tea culture today.

Historically manufactured in Scotland and London, McVitie's production has consolidated over the years. Following the closure of its final Scottish plant in 2022, manufacturing is now centered primarily in the United Kingdom at several major facilities, including the Harlesden factory in London—the largest biscuit factory in Europe—as well as sites in Manchester, Carlisle, Stockport, and Halifax. Due to its global popularity, the brand is also produced through various subsidiaries and licensed facilities in countries like India, Turkey, and Nigeria to serve international markets.

In 2014, the brand's parent company, United Biscuits, was acquired by Yildiz Holding, a Turkish multinational conglomerate. In 2016, Yildiz merged several of its businesses (including United Biscuits, Godiva, and Ulker) to form a new global snacking powerhouse called pladis. Today, McVitie's remains a flagship brand of pladis, which is headquartered in London and continues to hold a Royal Warrant for its longstanding supply of baked goods to the British Royal Household.
