The brand's history dates back to 1906 when the name was coined by Elsa Tesmer, a clerk at the German company Beiersdorf. While the brand initially appeared on toothpaste tubes, it found its true calling in the 1930s with the development of transparent adhesive film. In 1941, 'tesa' became the umbrella brand for all self-adhesive products under the Beiersdorf Group, and it was eventually spun off into an independent affiliate, tesa SE, in 2001.
