Founded in 2018 by Andre Sierek and Jan Stratmann in Mannheim, Germany, the brand specialized in a niche market of herbal supplements designed to curb sugar cravings and support gut health.

The products, which include drops, sprays, powders, and teas, are formulated using a blend of 15 natural bitter herbs and roots, such as gentian, artichoke, and dandelion. In early 2024, the Belgium-based private equity firm Vendis Capital acquired a majority stake in the brand from its original founders and former investor ARCUS Capital. This acquisition was aimed at scaling BitterLiebe's digital-native model and expanding its international presence beyond the DACH region into broader European and US markets.
