Kuyichi denim and essentials

Kuyichi was established in 2001 as the first brand to produce 100% organic cotton denim. The brand's journey began in 1998 when its founders, the NGO Solidaridad, witnessed the harsh environmental and social conditions of the cotton industry in Peru. Named after the Peruvian god of the rainbow, Kuyichi was created to prove that fashion could be both stylish and sustainable, effectively pioneering the organic denim movement.

While industrial roots are linked to Peru, the brand is quintessentially Dutch. Its headquarters are located in Utrecht, Netherlands. Over the years, Kuyichi has faced financial challenges, including a bankruptcy and relaunch in 2016. It is now owned and managed by a dedicated team of individuals including Peter Schuitema, Floortje Dessing, Guido Keff, Laurent Safi, and Bjorn Baars, who have kept the brand independent and focused on its circular mission.

Manufacturing takes place across several countries to ensure specialized skills and high standards of transparency. Key production hubs include Turkey, Tunisia, and Portugal, with additional operations in Morocco and Pakistan. The brand is highly regarded for its commitment to fair labor practices and occupies a 'Leader' status within the Fair Wear Foundation.
