Hey Dude was founded in 2008 by Italian entrepreneur Alessandro Rosano. Originally conceived in Italy to combine the comfort of slippers with the functionality of casual shoes, the brand quickly gained massive popularity for its lightweight, elastic-lace designs like the 'Wally' and 'Wendy' models. Although designed with an Italian aesthetic and initially managed from Hong Kong, the brand has always relied on a global manufacturing network to meet high consumer demand.

In early 2022, the brand was acquired by the American footwear giant Crocs, Inc. for approximately $2.5 billion. Following this acquisition, Hey Dude has been integrated into Crocs' extensive global supply chain and distribution infrastructure. While production was historically centered in China, it has significantly diversified into other regions including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Portugal to enhance supply chain resilience.

Today, Hey Dude operates as a standalone division under Crocs, Inc., with its headquarters relocated to Broomfield, Colorado. The brand continues to expand its international footprint, leveraging the marketing and logistical power of its parent company while maintaining the lightweight and casual identity that made it a retail success.
