Propecia finasteride 1 mg

Propecia (1 mg finasteride) is a widely recognized prescription medication primarily used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). The brand has a long historical lineage; it was originally developed by Merck & Co. (known as MSD outside North America) and received FDA approval in the late 1990s. The active ingredient, finasteride, works by inhibiting the Type II 5α-reductase enzyme, which reduces levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp, a hormone responsible for hair follicle miniaturization.

In June 2021, Merck spun off its women's health and legacy products—including Propecia—into a new independent, publicly-traded global healthcare company called Organon & Co. Consequently, the branding visible on modern packaging now features the Organon logo. While the brand tracing its origins to both Dutch and American pharmaceutical history through Organon's original 1923 founding in the Netherlands and Merck's later ownership, it is currently managed by Organon Healthcare.
