The Agent Negotiation & Exchange Protocol (ANEX) is a technical specification and software framework designed for the interoperability of AI-powered Personal Agents. Developed as a universal handshake protocol, it enables autonomous agents to identify compliance, negotiate terms of service, and exchange data or value safely. It is built upon the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA) standards, specifically leveraging FIPA ACL for message structure and Agent Communication Language.
Originally drafted and shared by technologist Ammon Haggerty, the project serves as an open-source contribution to the AI community. It provides a structured roadmap for developers working in Python and Node.js to create agents that can act as digital proxies for individuals. The development of the protocol is centralized in the United States and maintained through version control platforms like GitHub, where it exists under an MIT license, allowing for broad collaborative use and integration into future agent-based ecosystems.
