Calvé Maionese is one of the most recognizable condiments in Europe, particularly within the Italian and Dutch markets. The brand traces its roots back to the late 19th century in the Netherlands, originating from the merger of the Delft Oil Works, founded by Jacob Cornelis van Marken, and the French oil factory of the Calvé family. This Franco-Dutch collaboration laid the foundation for a brand that would eventually become a household name for mayonnaise and other sauces.
Today, Calvé is a key portfolio brand for Unilever. While the brand has deep Dutch origins, it has become the market leader in several other countries, most notably in Italy, where Calvé Classica is often considered the standard for commercial mayonnaise. Due to its status as a global brand, Calvé is manufactured in multiple facilities across Europe to serve local markets efficiently. The brand continues to focus on traditional recipes while expanding into low-fat and plant-based alternatives to meet modern dietary trends.
